The events and projects lined up for the PLJ Centennial express the Journal’s continued commitment to the elevation of legal scholarship in the Philippines, and celebrate the contributions of its alumni editors to the growth of the publication over the past 100 years.
In celebration of the Philippine Law Journal’s centennial as the Philippines’ premier student-run law review, the following events have been lined-up for the latter half of 2014.
Legal Academic Research & Writing Workshop
Date: Saturday, August 9 2014; 1 pm to 5 pm
Venue: Third Floor, UP College of Law Library
Formally launching the PLJ Centennial Celebrations, the legal academic research and writing workshop aims to encourage students to write academic papers, as well as to sharpen skills of juniors and seniors who will soon embark on their supervised legal research (SLR) assignments.
The workshop will feature notable speakers, including Dean Raul Pangalangan, J.S.D. on Craft and Conscience in Legal Writing: The Tyranny of Technique over Public Purpose, Prof. Jay Batongbacal on Current Trends in Academic Writing, Prof. Gwen de Vera on What Makes a Winning SLR, Mr. Richmond Wong of Westlaw Hong Kong on Effective Electronic Legal Research on Foreign Materials, and Prof. Ma. Theresa Libunao of CD Asia Technologies on Effective Electronic Legal Research on Philippine materials.
The event is co-organized with the UP Law Student Government (LSG).

The Centennial Exhibit, which will run on the month exactly 100 years from the first publication of the Journal, will feature the history and profile of the Journal and the alumni editors of the publication, and acknowledge the generosity of the Celebration’s sponsors.

Venue: Ayala Museum, Makati City
The Centennial Reunion, for the first time in recent memory, will bring together the alumni editors of the Journal. The Reunion will feature a dinner, an address by Prof. Danilo Concepcion, Dean of the College of Law, and addresses by Justice (Ret.) Vicente V. Mendoza and Senior Associate Justice Antonio T. Carpio, former chairpersons of the Journal.
The event will also see the launch of the Centennial Issue (Vol. 88, Issue No. 3), which will contain reprints of and commentaries on some of the best and most influential articles published in the Journal, as well as new works on legal scholarship, in general, and other topics.
The event will be held in the Ayala Museum Main Lobby.
